For example if you need to join metal together by welding then this would be a specialist process.

Specialist techniques

First check your design and see is there another way of doing this task.
Speak to local schools or companies to gain advice on the task.
Ensure your teacher is aware of you contacting outside companies as this needs documenting on your NEA/coursework.

Surface finishes

Products may require a finish adding to it.
This will be to improve the function or the aesthetics (look) of the product.
For example a garden shed would be painted or stained to make it look nice but also to waterproof the wood and make it last longer.
Examples of finishes are found in the next two concept modules.
