Surface treatments are what the surface of the wood requires in order to be rectified or made to be normal.

Filler

Can be applied to fill holes or knots in the wood.
Some additional sanding may be necessary.

Scraper

A scraper can scrape fine shavings away from wood which is useful when fitting drawers into cabinets.

Sanding

Simply sanding can reduce any imperfections that may be present.
