Developing Technology through Science
Science: KS3, topic 4.2.2
Developing Technology through Science
Scientific knowledge has led to many technological advancements, improving industries and everyday life.

New tools and machines
- Scientific discoveries have helped create new tools and machines.
- These inventions have made it easier to produce goods quickly.
- Factories can now make many products at once. This is called mass production.
- Example: the invention of steam engines allowed factories to run large machines. This made work faster and cheaper.

New materials
- Science has helped to develop new materials.
- These materials are used in construction, transportation, and everyday items.
- Examples:
- Plastic is a strong and light material. It can be shaped into many things.
- Steel is a material used to build tall buildings and bridges.

Advances in medicine
- Science has improved medicine.
- Scientists have created new medicines and techniques to treat illnesses.
- Example:
- Ultrasound is a technique based on echoes that helps doctors see inside the body. This helps doctors find problems and treat them more easily.
- Vaccines are used to prevent diseases.

New products and cleaner production
- Scientific advancements have made it possible to create new products more efficiently.
- Factories use less energy and produce less waste thanks to better technology.
- New machines can make more products while using fewer resources.
- Example: Scientists have found ways to make clean water available to more people. This has improved health in many parts of the world.

Science leads to new technology
- Each new scientific discovery opens the door to even more technological advancements.
- Examples:
- The telephone, invented by Alexander Graham Bell, allowed people to communicate over long distances.
- The discovery of electricity led to inventions like the light bulb, which changed the way people lived.
