Decay
Science: KS3, topic 1.3.9
The Rate of Decay of Biological Material
Biological material (waste products or dead organisms) decays due to decomposers. Decomposers are worms, which eat decaying matter, or microorganisms, which use enzymes to break down organic matter.

Temperature
- High temperature is usually best.

Moisture availability
- High moisture availability is usually best.

Oxygen availability
- High oxygen availability is usually best.

How do microorganisms act as decomposers?
Why do dead leaves in a garden decay more slowly in winter than in summer?
