Coloured Light
Science: KS3, topic 3.3.17
Visible Light
Visible light is used to see the world around us.

Visible light spectrum
- Traditionally, we say that there are seven colours of light in the spectrum.
- Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet.

Spectrum position
- Visible light is between infra-red radiation and ultraviolet light on the electromagnetic wave spectrum.

Uses
- We use visible light to see the world around us.
- We also use visible light in fibre optics.

Explanation
- We use visible light in fibre optics.
- Visible light can be totally internally reflected.

Transmitting signals
- Total internal reflection means we can send signals (information) along optical fibres.
- The signals do not get lost.
