Gestation
Science: KS3, topic 1.2.4
The Mother's Lifestyle
The lifestyle of the mother can affect the baby's health.

Why can it affect the baby?
- In humans, it is important to remember that the mother supplies the unborn baby with its nutrients and oxygen.
- So, anything the mother consumes or takes into her body is likely to be experienced by the child.

What should mothers not do?
- Mothers are told NOT to do the following during pregnancy:
- Smoke - smoking increases the chance of an unhealthy baby as well as increasing the risk of stillbirth.
- Drink alcohol - this will increase the chance of learning difficulties as well as foetal alcohol syndrome.
