Magnetic Fields
Science: KS3, topic 3.4.12
Magnetic Fields
Magnetic fields cannot be seen. Magnets push and pull within their magnetic fields.

Magnetic fields
- Field lines must be drawn with an arrow pointing from north to south.
- The magnetic fields are strongest at either the north or south poles.
- So the field lines will be closer together.

Observing magnetic fields
- If you sprinkle iron filings around a magnet they will form a pattern.
- The pattern is a magnetic field.
- You can also see the field lines with plotting compasses.
Test yourself on Magnetic Fields
Where do magnets exert magnetic forces?
Which are true of magnetic fields?
A bar magnet's field lines are closer together near its poles and farther apart near its middle. Where is the magnetic field strongest?
A diagram shows a magnet's field lines with arrows pointing from the south pole to the north pole. According to the rule for drawing field lines, is this correct?
