Environmental Changes & Extinctions
Science: KS3, topic 1.3.20
Environmental Changes
Certain environmental changes can lead to extinction of species.

Temperature changes
- Temperature changes can cause organisms to overheat, or cool down too much. This could make survival harder.
- It might also affect their food supply.

Water supply
- Too much or too little water could have drastic effects, particularly on plants and the organisms that eat them.

Destruction of habitat
- Destruction of habitat is a huge environmental change.
- Deforestation can reduce the amount of available food and shelter for some organisms.
Test yourself on Environmental Changes & Extinctions
Which of these is NOT a factor that can lead to extinction?
A sudden drop in temperature hits an area, and the local animals cannot easily warm themselves. Why could this put their survival at risk?
