Blood is a tissue. Tissues are groups of similar cells that act together to perform a similar function. Blood is made up of a fluid called plasma, which has three parts to it:

Platelets

  • Platelets are suspended in blood plasma.

Test yourself on Blood Components

  • Tissues are groups of similar cells that act together to perform a similar function. Would one single red blood cell, on its own, count as a tissue?

  • A tissue must be made of cells. Blood plasma is described as a fluid. Would plasma by itself, with no cells in it, count as a tissue?
