Plant Cells

Plant Cell Organelles
Plant cells have all the same parts as animal cells, but they also have a few extra organelles.

Cell wall
- The cell wall gives the plant cell strength and rigidity (ability to keep its shape).
- Cell walls stop cells bursting if they take in too much water.

Chloroplasts
- The chloroplasts are responsible for providing nutrients to the plant from a process called photosynthesis.
- Chloroplasts capture sunlight and use that energy to make glucose, which is a type of sugar.

Vacuole
- The vacuole can be thought of as a storage organelle.
- Vacuoles contain a liquid called cell sap and can store sugar that has been made from photosynthesis.

What is a vacuole?
Why do plant cells need both chloroplasts and a vacuole to handle sugar?
