Species Interdependence
Science: KS3, topic 1.3.1
Species Interdependence
There is interdependence between different species. This means that one species may rely on another species for different things, such as:
Food
- A species may depend on another for food.
Shelter
- A species may depend on another for shelter.
Pollination
- A species may depend on another for pollination (transfer of pollen).
Seed dispersal
- A species may depend on another to spread its seeds.
Test yourself on Species Interdependence
Which of these is NOT something that a species could depend on another species for?
Why could removing one species from a habitat affect several other species living there?
A field of flowering crop plants depends on insects to transfer pollen between flowers. One year, insect numbers in the field drop sharply. What is most likely to happen to the crop plants?
