When the Second World War ended in 1945, the Jewish community was left devastated.

After the war

The few Jewish people who survived found themselves without family because so many had been killed.
Often their possessions had been stolen and were not returned.

Emigrating

Some survivors went to live in what is now known as Israel.
Israel is a country re-established as a Jewish homeland in 1948.
Others emigrated to other countries such as the UK and the USA.
Jewish people began to rebuild their lives in the aftermath of the war.

Endless fear

Many Jewish people have continued to feel unsafe and face persecution.
There are neo-Nazi organisations all over the world.

Neo-Nazis

These groups often promote white supremacy and in particular, hatred against Jewish people.
Jewish cemeteries and religious buildings are often vandalised.
Jewish people are often attacked in the street.
