Nationalism and Extremism
Some nationalists take their ideas a step further.
An Ethno-State
An Ethno-State
- Some nationalists go further to say that their country should have only one ethnic or racial group, or that a country should be physically divided into races.
- This happened in South Africa, with a policy of apartheid, or 'separate development'.
- In South Africa the white population excluded the majority black population from certain neighbourhoods and jobs.

- We saw in Nazi Germany an even more extreme version of this attitude.
- Nazi Germany implemented genocide, the killing of an entire ethnic group.
- Attempts to do the same have also been made in countries such as Bosnia in the 1990s.

- How does Nationalism lead to extremism?
- There are white English people who believe that only white people should live in England.
- They believe they must take action to back up their belief.
- They might call for these groups to be 'sent home', even though England is their home.
- This might lead to the spreading of hate and violence against Black and Asian communities.
