Otro hallazgo sorprendente
- El año pasado se produjo otro hallazgo sorprendente en la selva guatemalteca, donde encontraron una ciudad de los antiguos mayas totalmente sepultada por la tierra y la vegetación.
- Last year there was another surprising discovery in the Guatemalan jungle, where they found an ancient Mayan city totally buried by soil and vegetation.
La cultura maya
- La cultura maya apareció hará unos 3 mil años en el sur del actual México, Guatemala y los países colindantes.
- The Mayan culture appeared about 3 thousand years ago in the South of present-day Mexico, Guatemala and the neighbouring countries.
Una civilización avanzada
- Aunque se sabe que los mayas tenían una civilización avanzada, esta ciudad nos revela nuevas informaciones sobre el nivel de sofisticación de aquellas culturas de antes de la llegada de los españoles.
- Although we know that the Maya had an advanced civilisation, this city reveals new information about the level of sophistication of those cultures.
Los hallazgos
- Allí descubrieron unas mil estructuras y la mayoría de ellas son viviendas. También encontraron unos canales para el riego, de hecho los Mayas moldeaban el paisaje para adaptarlo a la agricultura.
- There they discovered about a thousand structures and most of them are houses. They also found some channels for irrigation, in fact the Mayas moulded the landscape to adapt it to agriculture.
La situación en España
- En España, el reciente descubrimiento de monedas romanas y restos de cerámica en Madrid cuestiona lo que se pensaba hasta ahora: que la capital de España fue fundada por los árabes.
- In Spain, the recent discovery of Roman coins and pottery in Madrid casts doubts on what we believed until now: that the capital of Spain was founded by the Arabs.
El trabajo de los arqueólogos
- Pero los arqueólogos siguen investigando en ese supuesto asentamiento romano. De momento no se pueden sacar demasiadas conclusiones sobre estos nuevos hallazgos.
- However, archaeologists are still investigating in this supposedly Roman settlement. For now, we cannot draw too many conclusions about these new findings.
