El machismo en la película “El laberinto del fauno”
- El director presenta al capitán Vidal como un hombre machista que se cree superior a las mujeres. Con ello, refleja el marco sociocultural tan machista de los casi cuarenta años de la dictadura franquista.
- The director presents Captain Vidal as a macho man who thinks he is superior to women. With this, he reflects the male chauvinist sociocultural framework of the almost forty years of the Franco dictatorship.
El machismo en la película “El laberinto del fauno”
- Una de las citas más importantes es cuando Vidal tortura a Mercedes y dice que ella “no es más que una mujer”, reflejando la superioridad sociopolítica de los hombres en la sociedad franquista.
- One of the most important quotes in the film is when Vidal tortures Mercedes and says that she "is only a woman", reflecting the sociopolitical superiority of men in the Franco society.
La importancia del machismo en la película “El laberinto del fauno”
- Hay machismo en la sumisión de Carmen hacia Vidal: cuando Vidal le pide que se siente en la silla de ruedas y se calle, o cuando le dice al doctor antes del parto: “si hay que salvar a alguien, salve a mi hijo”.
- There is machismo in Carmen's submission to Vidal: when Vidal asks here to sit in the wheelchair and shut up, or also when he says to the doctor before delivery: "If you need so save someone, save my son".
La obsesión de Vidal con su padre y con la paternidad
- El director introduce a Vidal con un primer plano del reloj que perteneció a su padre y que muestra la hora exacta en la que murió, lo que nos muestra que el capitán tiene cierta obsesión con su padre.
- The director introduces Vidal with a close-up shot of the watch that belonged to his father and that shows the exact time he died, which shows us that the captain has a certain obsession with his father.

- A lo largo de la película vemos al capitán cuidar minuciosamente del reloj, y al final de la película dice que su hijo “llevará mi nombre y el nombre de mi padre”.
- Throughout the film we see the captain taking care of the watch and in the end he says that his son "will bear my name and my father's name".
La obsesión de Vidal con su padre y con la paternidad
- Vidal está obsesionado por querer tener un hijo varón que continúe con el legado de su padre y el suyo. Por ejemplo, saluda a su mujer embarazada y a Ofelia con un “bienvenidos”, usando el masculino plural.
- Vidal is obsessed with wanting to have a son who continues his father's legacy and his own. For example, he greets his pregnant wife and Ofelia with a "welcome" using the masculine plural.
La obsesión de Vidal con su padre y con la paternidad
- Cuando Mercedes le dice “Él (bebé) nunca sabrá tu nombre” parece que le molesta al capitán Vidal quizás más que la bala que le mata, lo que demuestra la obsesión del capitán.
- When Mercedes says to him "He (the baby) will never know your name", this seems to bother Captain Vidal perhaps more than the bullet that kills him, which demonstrates the captain's obsession.
