- ¿Qué significa ser un “indocumentado?
- What does it mean to be an “indocumentado”?
Los "sin-papeles"
- También se les llama “sin-papeles”, “migrantes irregulares”, o “migrantes en situación irregular”, o incluso “los inmigrantes que se encuentran en una situación administrativa irregular".
- They are also called “undocumented”, “irregular migrants”, or “irregular migrants”, or even “the immigrants who are in an irregular administrative situation”.
Falta de documentos
- Se puede decir que son inmigrantes que no tienen autorización oficial de entrada o de permanencia en cierto país. Por ello no tienen los documentos de entrada apropiados “en regla”.
- It can be said that they are immigrants who do not have an official authorisation to enter a certain country or remain in it. As a result, they do not have the appropriate entry documents.
Los requisitos
- En algunos países hispanohablantes se requiere un visa para entrar legalmente al país. En otros, se necesita un permiso de trabajo o de residencia para poder residir lícitamente en el país de acogida.
- In some Spanish-speaking countries, you require a visa to legally enter the country. In others, you need a work permit or a residence permit to be able to reside in the host country.
Hacer lo posible
- Hay países que tienen regulaciones percibidas como más estrictas. Por ello, los inmigrantes que no cumplen los requisitos harán lo posible por entrar en el país por rutas ilegales y peligrosas.
- Some countries have regulations which are perceived as stricter. Because of this, immigrants will do everything they can to enter the country through illegal and dangerous routes.
El gran salto
- Por ejemplo, saltarán vallas fronterizas o cruzarán mares o se meterán en camiones, y como consecuencia arriesgarán sus propias vidas para conseguir su objetivo de llegar al país de destino.
- For example, they will jump border fences or cross seas or tuck themselves away in trucks, and as a consequence they will risk their own lives to achieve their goal of reaching the destination country.

Los requisitos en España
- En España, los requisitos de entrada al país están regulados por la Ley de Extranjería que se aprobó el año 2000 pero que ha sido modificada en varias ocasiones.
- In Spain, the entry requirements are regulated by the Immigration Law that was approved in 2000, but has been modified on several occasions.
DNI
- Esta ley establece que los inmigrantes necesitan una Tarjeta de Identidad del Extranjero, equivalente al DNI o Documento Nacional de Identidad que tienen todos los españoles mayores de 18 años.
- This law establishes that immigrants need a Foreign Identity Card, which is equivalent to the DNI or National Identity Document that all Spanish over 18 have.
El visa
- Además, los inmigrantes tienen que solicitar el visa correspondiente, tales como el visa de residencia, el visa de residencia y trabajo o el de visa de estudios.
- In addition, immigrants have to apply for the corresponding visa, such as the residence visa, the residence and work visa or the study visa.
