- El personaje del fauno es el que más evoluciona, ya que se nos muestra como una criatura que parece cambiar mucho en diferentes partes de la película.
- The character of the faun is the one that evolves the most throughout the film, since he is shown as a creature that seems to change a lot in different parts of the film.

- Por ejemplo al principio de la película se nos muestra como una criatura respetuosa con Ofelia, a la que habla con un español arcaico, usando la fórmula del “vos”.
- For example, at the beginning of the film, he is shown as a respectful creature toward Ofelia, to whom he speaks with an archaic Spanish, using the formula of "vos".

- Su aspecto físico es la de una criatura vieja y bondadosa, y se presenta de forma positiva diciendo “soy el monte, el bosque y la tierra”.

- Sin embargo, el fauno va cambiando de personalidad y de aspecto físico hacia la mitad de la película. El fauno se va volviendo más amenazante y al mismo tiempo va rejuveneciendo físicamente.
- However, the faun changes his personality and physical appearance towards the middle of the film. The faun becomes more threatening and at the same time he is physically rejuvenating.

- Cuando se ve más bello y joven, con la piel y el pelo más limpios, se vuelve más agresivo. En la tercera prueba, le pide a Ofelia que sacrifique la vida de su hermanito de forma amenazadora.
- When he looks younger and more beautiful, with cleaner skin and hair, he becomes more aggressive. For the third task, he asks Ofelia to sacrifice the life of her little brother in a threatening way.

- A pesar de eso, al final de todo, cuando Ofelia muere y llega al mundo mágico se le ve como una criatura bondadosa otra vez que le dice a Ofelia “habéis elegido bien”.
- However, at the very end, when Ofelia dies and reaches the magical world, he is seen as a kind creature again and he says to Ofelia "you have made the right decision".

- Ofelia evoluciona durante la película. Al principio, parece una chica inocente y pura a la que le encanta leer y estar con su madre. Ambas se hacen compañía pero Ofelia resiente el capitán Vidal.
- Ofelia evolves during the movie. At the beginning, she seems an innocent and pure girl who loves to read and be with her mother. They keep company to each other, but Ofelia resents Captain Vidal.

- Además, parece que Ofelia usa la fantasía como un mecanismo de defensa contra la crueldad del mundo y así, por ejemplo, inventa la historia de la rosa para su hermanito.
- Furthermore, Ofelia seems to use fantasy as a defence mechanism against the cruelty of the world and thus, for example, she invents the story of the rose for her little brother.

- A lo largo de la película ella evoluciona en respuesta a lo que pasa a su alrededor: es una niña más valiente, que muestra sus sentimientos de amor, miedo, afecto o disgusto de una manera adulta.
- Throughout the film she evolves in response to what happens around her: she is a braver girl, who shows her feelings of love, fear, affection or disgust in an adult way.

- Por ejemplo, le recrimina a su madre por casarse con Vidal diciéndole: «¿Por qué tenías que casarte?». También al final es más madura, confía en su instinto y elige la realidad a la fantasía.
- For instance, she reproaches her mother for marrying Vidal saying: "Why did you have to get married?". Also, at the end of the film, she is more mature, she trusts her instinct and she chooses reality over fantasy.
