There are many different genres of TV programme and many different channels available, particularly in the digital era.

Critical analysis

When critically analysing TV it is important to:
- Consider if a TV text is conventional or unconventional for the genre.
- Identify the types of media language used.
- Consider how issues of ownership and audience may affect certain representations and readings.

The Television Industry

Digital technologies have had an impact on how the TV industry produce and distribute their products as well as affecting how audiences consume them.

Audience

Many TV shows are now aimed at much smaller niche audiences and it has become increasingly challenging to attract large audiences to watch the same programmes.
However some TV programmes still manage to do so.
