Technology has changed the nature of the film industry.

Digital recording
- One benefit of technology has been the development of digital recording.
- This has enabled filming to become cheaper and easier to do as physical tape required larger cameras and more delicate care.

Benefits to production
- Because of digital film, production can easily take place around the world at the same time and the recordings can be sent as a digital file.

Distribution
- Distribution has become easier as digital files can be sent to the exhibitors, rather than large tapes, which there would have been a limited number of due to the cost of each tape.
Responses to Technological Advancements
The way audiences watch films has changed because of the proliferation (development) of technology.

Piracy
- A downside to digital film and the development of technology is that movie piracy has become easier and more readily accessible.

Audience experience
- Cinemas can now cater for 2D, 3D and 4DX films which enhance the audience experience.
- This has been a direct response to declining cinema goers and piracy.

CGI
- Films also use a lot more CGI (computer generated images) and can create more believe escapism genres such as fantasy and adventure.

Streaming
- Streaming sites such as Netflix and YouTube have benefited from the digital nature of the film industry as they can stream digital film files to audiences for a monthly subscription.
