Required Practical - Light Intensity
Biology: AQA GCSE Higher, topic 4.1.8
Measuring the Rate of Photosynthesis
The rate that pond weed produces bubbles indicates the rate of photosynthesis. The bubbles released are oxygen, a waste product of photosynthesis.
Investigating Photosynthesis Rates
Light intensity is not the only factor that can affect the rate of photosynthesis. Other factors that you might want to investigate are:
Temperature
Carbon dioxide concentration
Test yourself on Required Practical - Light Intensity
Light intensity can affect the rate of which process in plants such as pondweed?
Why do the bubbles produced by pondweed in this experiment contain oxygen?
Why does counting the bubbles produced by pondweed measure the rate of photosynthesis?
Why is an aquatic plant such as pondweed used in this investigation, rather than a plant that grows on land?
Why are the bubbles produced by pondweed counted over a fixed time, such as one minute, rather than just counting a total?
