Chromosomes
Biology: AQA GCSE Higher, topic 1.2.1
Chromosomes
Chromosomes are made from molecules of DNA and can be found in the nucleus of a cell. Each chromosome carries a large number of genes. Chromosomes are typically found in pairs in body cells.

Genes
- Chromosomes are found in cell nuclei.
- Chromosomes are made up of many different genes that encode (produce) many different proteins.
Test yourself on Chromosomes
In eukaryotic cells, chromosomes are enclosed inside a membrane-bound structure. What is this structure called?
Do body cells or sex cells (sperm and egg cells) have more chromosomes?
Besides the nucleus, what does every eukaryotic cell contain?
A chromosome contains many different genes, and each gene codes for a different protein. What does this allow a single chromosome to do?
Each chromosome is made of DNA and carries genes that code for specific proteins. What does this tell you about the role of DNA in a chromosome?
