Osmosis 2

Biology: AQA GCSE Higher, topic 1.3.8

Osmosis

Osmosis is the diffusion of water across a partially permeable membrane from a dilute solution (high concentration of water) to a concentrated solution (low concentration of water).

Test yourself on Osmosis 2

  • Why is the independent variable changed during an experiment?

  • An object is placed in a sugar solution more concentrated than the liquid inside it. What happens to the mass of the object?

  • A dilute solution and a concentrated solution are separated by a partially permeable membrane. What happens to the volume of the dilute solution over time?

  • Water moves between a dilute solution and a concentrated solution until the concentrations are equal. What happens to the net movement of water once the concentrations become equal?
