Diffusion
Biology: AQA GCSE Higher, topic 1.3.1
Diffusion Example
Diffusion is the random movement of particles through a gas or liquid from high concentration to a low concentration.
Perfume
- When you spray perfume, the smell diffuses across the room from the high concentration (where you just sprayed it) to low concentration (the other side of the room).
Test yourself on Diffusion
Which explanation for each process is correct?
What best describes how particles move during diffusion?
Which gas diffuses from the lungs into the bloodstream?
A person sprays perfume in one corner of a room. Why does the smell eventually diffuse to the other side of the room?
Carbon dioxide normally diffuses from the blood into the lungs. What would happen to this movement if the blood had a lower carbon dioxide concentration than the lungs?
