New treaties

New treaties

  • The Triple Entente (Great Britain, France and Russia) versus the Triple Alliance (Germany, Italy and Austria-Hungary).
Threats to peace

Threats to peace

  • In particular, the tensions between Russia and Austria-Hungary were becoming a threat to peace.
    • This is because they both wanted more power in the Balkans.
  • Serbia’s opposition to Austria-Hungary was also a threat to peace.
  • When conflict did come, it was inevitable that all the Great Powers would be dragged into war because of the obligations to their alliances.
