Concentrations of Solute

Chemistry: AQA GCSE Higher, topic 3.1.24

Concentrations of Solutions

The concentration of a solution can be measured in terms of:

Moles

Moles

  • Solution concentration (mol/dm3) = amount of substance (mol) ÷ volume (dm3)
Mass

Mass

  • Solution concentration (g/dm3) = mass of substance (g) ÷ volume (dm3)

Test yourself on Concentrations of Solute

  • What units can be used to express the concentration of a solution?

  • A solution has a concentration of 2 mol/dm3 and contains 6 mol of substance. What is the volume of the solution?

  • A solution with a volume of 4 dm3 has a concentration of 0.5 mol/dm3. How many moles of substance does the solution contain?

  • A solution has a concentration of 5 g/dm3 and a volume of 8 dm3. What mass of substance does it contain?

  • A solution has a concentration of 4 g/dm3 and contains 20 g of substance. What is the volume of the solution?
