Science: Year 5 & 6 National Curriculum, topic 11.3.2
Planning an Investigation: Equipment
Before starting your investigation, you need to think about the equipment you will need. Is that equipment available in your school?

Special equipment
- The question ‘What happens in the brain when we eat chocolate?’ is difficult to investigate with an experiment in school.
- You would need a lot of special equipment.
- The special equipment needed would not be available in school.

Types of investigation
- You will have to decide what type of investigation will answer your question.
- An investigation can be research, an observation, a ‘fair test’ experiment, etc.
- You may be able to find out what you need through research online (or in books) if you don't have access to the right equipment.
