Hypothesis
Science: Year 5 & 6 National Curriculum, topic 11.1.5
Hypothesis
Hypothesis is a scientific idea that can be tested.

Example
- An example of a hypothesis would be ‘plants need water to survive’.
- We can conduct experiments to test the hypothesis.

Results
- The results of an investigation can go in favour or against the original hypothesis.
- Scientists should not be upset to discover that the evidence does not support their hypothesis.

Conclusions
- Showing that a hypothesis may not be true is just as interesting as showing that it may be true!
- A new hypothesis can be formed based on the evidence.
