Biology: Cambridge International GCSE Supplement, topic 9.2.3
Monitoring Heart Rate
Heart rate can be measured in different ways:

Electrocardiogram (ECG)
- Sensors are attached to the skin to detect the electrical signals made when the heart beats.

Pulse rate
- ‘Pulse points’ at the wrist and neck are where the flow of blood can be felt passing through an artery.

Stethoscope
- When a stethoscope is put to someone's chest, the valves of the heart can be heard as they open and close.
