Enzymes in Biotechnology
Humans also make use of the activity of enzymes for biotechnological processes. Examples include:

Pectinase
- Pectinase is used in the production of fruit juice to reduce the stickiness of the crushed fruit and to make it smoother to drink.

Biological washing powders
- Enzymes in biological washing powders digests stains on clothing.

Lactose-free milk
- Lactose-intolerant individuals can consume milk that has had lactase added to it.
- This breaks down the lactose to galactose and glucose, making it lactose-free.
Test yourself on Enzymes in Biotechnology
What is the name of the enzyme added to milk to make it lactose-free?
Which of the following is not a product of the breakdown of lactose?
