Coordinates
Coordinates
Coordinates
Co-ordinates are used to plot the position of points on a graph.

Axes
Axes
- On the graph above, there is:
- A horizontal line called the x-axis.
- A vertical line called the y-axis.

Origin
Origin
- The axes are numbered to tell you how far along or how far up the axis a point is.
- How far along the x-axis a point is is called the x-coordinate.
- How far up the y-axis a point is is called the y-coordinate.

Coordinates
Coordinates
- We give the location of a point in coordinates (x,y).
- x is the x-coordinate of the point.
- y is the y-coordinate of the point.
- The x-coordinate is always given before the y-coordinate.

Points
Points
- The point on the grid has coordinates (2,1).
- This means the point is 2 along, and 1 up.
- The axes meet at a point called the origin which is at (0,0).
