We can find a hundredth of a number by splitting it into 100 equal parts.

  • Imagine splitting up a number into 100 equal parts.
    • One of these parts is equal to a "hundredth" of the number.
  • We can write a tenth as 1/100.

  • A ‘hundredth’ is found when we divide a number by 100.
    • For example, 2 ÷100 = 0.02.
  • 0.02 is two hundredths.
  • So 1/100 of 20 is equal to 0.02.

  • A ‘hundredth’ is found when we find a tenth of a tenth.
    • For example, a tenth of 3 is 0.3.
    • 0.3 ÷ 10 = 0.03
  • 0.03 is three hundredths.

Counting up in hundredths

  • We can count up in hundredths:
    • 0 , 0.01, 0.02, 0.03, 0.04, 0.05, 0.06, 0.07, 0.08, 0.09, 0.1
  • We can also count down in tenths:
    • 0.1, 0.09, 0.08, 0.07, 0.06, 0.05, 0.04, 0.03, 0.02, 0.01, 0
