Example

  • There are 7,500 raffle tickets to sell.
  • Lucy sold 2,364, while Daniel sold 3,748. How many are left to sell?

First step

  • First, we need to add the amount of tickets sold.
    • 2,364 + 3,748 = 6,112
  • The total amount of tickets sold is 6,112.

Second step

  • Now we need to find out how many tickets from the original 7,500 are left.
  • We are finding the difference which means we are using subtraction:
    • 7,500 - 6,112 = 1,388
