  • To add 100, we add 1 to the number in the hundreds column:
    • 370 + 100 = 470

  • To take away 100, we subtract 1 from the number in the hundreds column:
    • 370 - 100 = 270

  • Sometimes we want to add 100 and the number in the hundreds column is 9.
  • To do this, change the 9 to a 0 and add 1 to the number in the thousands column:
    • 4980 + 100 = 5080

  • Sometimes we want to take away 100 and the number in the hundreds column is 0.
  • To do this, change the 0 to a 9 and take away 1 from the number in the thousands column:
    • 1056 - 100 = 0956 = 956
