We can use the times tables that we know to times 2 digit numbers by 1 digit numbers.

Using times tables

Let's say we want to work out 36 x 4.
We can use our 4 times table to work it out:
- We know that 3 x 4 = 12.
- That means 30 x 4 = 120.
- We know that 6 x 4 = 24.

Add together

To work out 36 x 4, we just add together 30 x 4 and 6 x 4:
- 120 + 24 = 144
That means 36 x 4 = 144.
