Time of the Day

There are 24 hours in a day. Each day is split up into 12 hours in the morning and 12 hours in the afternoon and evening.

Midday and midnight

Midday and midnight

  • When we write time, we use a way of showing whether it is before or after 12 o’clock midday.
    • Midday is in the middle of the day.
    • It is also called noon.
  • Midday is written as 12:00 pm or 12 pm.

  • The middle of the night is 12 o’clock midnight.
  • Midnight is 12:00 am or 12 am.
Morning

Morning

  • Morning is am.
  • 8:00 am means eight o’clock in the morning.
  • We can also write this 8 am.
Afternoon and evening

  • Afternoon and evening are pm.
  • 3:00 pm means three o’clock in the afternoon.
  • We can also write this 3 pm.
