2.2.1
Mass
Mass
Mass
We use the word mass to describe the measurement of how heavy something is. Metric measurements of mass are based on the unit of measurement called the gram.

Units of measurement
Units of measurement
- Gram and kilogram are units of mass.
- We write the units after the number, using lower case letters.
- 5 g (five grams).
- 20 kg (twenty kilograms).

Relations between units
Relations between units
- Grams are smaller and kilograms are bigger.
- There are 1,000 grams in 1 kilogram.
- You should use grams to measure light objects.
- You should use kilograms to measure heavy objects.

Weighing objects
Weighing objects
- We use a scale to weigh different objects.
- Some scales have a dial with measurements written in kilograms or grams.
- Scales often have divisions between the main numbers.
- Divisions between the kilograms might be 100s of grams or fractions of a kilogram, like a half or a quarter.

Mixed units
Mixed units
- You can weigh objects and use a mixture of kg and g.
- For example, 2 kg 300 g is a mass measured in a mixture of kg and g.
