Comparing unit fractions

Which is bigger, ¹/₂ or ¹/₃?
We can work out the fractions of numbers to help us.
- I know ¹/₂ of 12 = 6 (because 12 ÷ 2 = 6).
- I know ¹/₃ of 12 = 4 (because 12 ÷ 3 = 4).
So ¹/₂ is bigger than ¹/₃.

Ordering unit fractions

Unit fractions can be ordered by looking at their denominators.
The smaller the denominator, the bigger the fraction.
So to order the fractions shown from smallest to biggest, we have to order the denominators from biggest to smallest.
