  • It is easy to order fractions when the denominators are the same.

Comparing unit fractions

  • Which is bigger, 1/2 or 1/3?
  • We can work out the fractions of numbers to help us.
    • I know 1/2 of 12 = 6 (because 12 ÷ 2 = 6).
    • I know 1/3 of 12 = 4 (because 12 ÷ 3 = 4).
  • So 1/2 is bigger than 1/3.

  • The smaller the denominator, the bigger the fraction.
