We can write fractions that represent all of the parts of a number or shape.

One whole

One whole

  • Fractions which have the same numerator and denominator are equal to 1 whole.
  • For example, 3/3 means there are 3 equal parts and we have all of them.
    • So 3/3 is 1 whole.

  • If we cut a cake into 4 equal pieces, then eat all 4, we would eat the whole cake.
    • 4/4 is 1 whole.
