How do we Fight Extremism?
It is widely agreed that extremism is anti-democratic, and often violent. For this reason most societies fight against it.

Fighting homophobia
- The Southern Poverty Law Centre also works to counter homophobia, which is on the increase.
- Those who encourage hatred of others need to be opposed.
- The tolerant majority of citizens need to report such behaviour when they see it, and to speak out against it.

Education
- We have also seen that extremists rely on ignorance.
- Political terrorists and conspiracy theorists often make claims that people cannot answer because they lack knowledge.
- This makes it essential that people, including school pupils, are taught such subjects as religion, history and politics.
- This would ensure they have a proper understanding of the world around them, not a distorted one.

Defeating extremism
- It has been said that the only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good people to do nothing.
- In which case, the opposite may also be true.
- In this topic it has been argued that extremism feeds off injustice, ignorance and fear.
- These are all all fuelled by inaction.
- To combat extremism requires tolerance, gaining true knowledge and opposing injustice.
