Moses and The Exodus
The Exodus is when God freed the Jewish people from their enslavement in Egypt.

The plagues
- Moses is the leader of the Israelites/Jewish people.
- God tells Moses to instruct the Pharaoh (the King of Egypt) to let the Jews go free to worship God.
- The King of Egypt refuses and is punished by God with 10 plagues.
- These plagues are of blood; frogs; lice; wild animals; deaths of animals; boils; hail; locusts; darkness; and the deaths of firstborn children.

The Exodus
- The death of every firstborn child was a punishment for hurting “God’s firstborn” (the Jewish people).
- The day after this tenth plague, the Israelites walk to freedom.

Mount Sinai
- Seven weeks later, the Jewish people are standing at Mount Sinai ready to receive the Torah and the laws from God.
- The Ten Commandments/ Ten Sayings {this is more accurate} are spoken to all the people.
- Moses then spends 40 days and nights on Mount Sinai learning the other laws and the details.

The Ten Commandments
- Ultimately, the Jewish people are given 613 Mitzvot/Commandments.
- The first ten laws are:
- Belief in the One God
- Not to Worship other gods
- Not to take God’s name in vain
- Keep the Sabbath
- Honour your parents
- Do not kill
- Do not commit adultery
- Do not steal
- Do not lie when giving evidence in court
- Do not be jealous.
