The heart is a double pump that transports blood around the body.


Muscle

- The heart is a muscle that beats an average of 60-80 times a minute when an adult is resting.
- When you exercise and need more energy, the heart pumps harder to supply more oxygen and glucose through the blood.


Chambers
Chambers
- The heart has four chambers.
- The left-hand side has blood rich in oxygen (red in the image).
- The right-hand side has blood rich in carbon dioxide (blue in the image).

- The heart has valves to prevent the backflow of blood.
