Gears are wheels with toothed edges. The toothed edges of one gear can fit into the edges of another.

Gears can be described as force multipliers.
Force multipliers are simple machines.

Using gears to change force

A force can be passed through the gears.
- If a force is passed through a large gear to a small gear (from A to B), the force is increased.
- If a force is passed through a small gear to a large gear (from B to A), the force is decreased.
