The Nature of God

Jews believe in One God, so Judaism is a monotheistic religion. The nature of God can be characterised by 3 main beliefs:

  • God is understood in terms of the following characteristics:
    • Omnipotent - all-powerful.
    • Omniscient - all-knowing.
    • Omnipresent - everywhere at the same time.
  • Jews must be loyal to God, and God is the only being who should be worshipped.

  • God is the creator and King.
  • God is the creator of everything and what exists is in existence because God wanted it to be.
  • God gave humans free will to act as they wish.
God as a law giver and judge

God as a law giver and judge

  • God determines both how Jews should live their lives and the values that are important.
