Moses

Moses

  • Moses was called by God to deliver the Hebrew people from bondage in Egypt.
    • Moses had to tell Pharaoh to release God’s people from captivity.
  • After many great miracles, Moses led the Hebrew people through the Red Sea and across the wilderness towards the Promised Land.
Torah and the mitzvot

Torah and the mitzvot

  • At Mount Sinai, Moses was given five books of sacred text, called the Torah.
  • The Torah contains the 613 mitzvot (‘duties’).
    • If the people obeyed the 613 mitzvot then God would bless them.
    • The most important mitzvot were the Ten Commandments (Ten Mitzvot).
