The conditional tense
You use conditional to express the word “would”. There isn’t a separate word like in English for “would”. Instead, it is attached at the end of the verb through the correct conditional endings.

Format
- Take the infinitive which must end in the letter R (for –RE ending verbs, drop the E) and attach the conditional tense endings.
- Je + stem + ais
- Tu + stem + ais
- Il/elle/on + stem + ait
- Nous + stem + ions
- Vous + stem + iez
- Ils/elles + stem + aient
- Tip : there’s always the letter R before the conditional tense endings.

Example
- Je travaillerais
- Tu travaillerais
- Il elle on travaillerait
- Nous travaillerions
- Vous travailleriez
- Ils elles travailleraient
