Overview of Rivers
Geography: KS3, topic 8.1.1
Rivers
A river is a body of water that flows from the source (usually at the top of a mountain) to the sea or ocean. The River Thames flows through London and is probably the most famous river in the UK.

Channels
- Rivers flow in a channel.
- The base of the channel is called the bed.
- The sides of the channel are called the banks.

Transportation
- When the river flows down towards the ocean or sea, it changes the land, moving earth from one place to another.

Flooding
- If there is too much water in a river, it will overflow, causing floods.
