The European Union
Geography: KS3, topic 3.1.4
The European Union
The European Union (EU) is a group made up of countries in Europe.

The EU
- Some countries in the continent in Europe are part of a ‘club’ of countries called the European Union.
- However, just because a country is in the continent of Europe, this does not automatically make it part of the EU.

Membership
- There are about 50 countries in Europe but since 2020, the EU has 27 member countries.
- Iceland is not in the EU, for example.
- Britain voted to leave the EU in June 2016.

Euros
- 20 of the 27 member countries of the EU share the same currency.
- We say that these countries are part of the Eurozone.
