Section A: Creative Reading - Question 1
In Section A of Paper 1, you will be given a 40-50 line extract from a modern piece of fiction. Unless you are very lucky and have already read the text, this extract will be unseen.

- Question 1 is worth four marks. You should spend around two minutes reading and three minutes writing.
- The question will ask you to list four things from the lines indicated about the person, place, or object specified.
- For example, if your extract came from Dickens' A Christmas Carol, you could be asked to list four things about Scrooge's character, or Scrooge's house, or Tiny Tim and so on...

- You must find the information from the lines specified in the question
- You must find the information about the topic stated.
- Do NOT list things that you know about the topic – the information must come from the text!
- You may quote or paraphrase.
- If you copy out the whole text, you will receive no marks at all.
