Weight
Physics: Cambridge International GCSE Supplement, topic 1.3.2
Weight - Examples
Weight = mass x gravitational field strength.
Gymin'
- This would be easier on the Moon, where the gravitational field of strength is lower.
Experiment
- Both balls used are subject to the same gravitational field of strength.
Balance
- A balance compares the weights of two objects.
- If both objects are in the same place, the gravitational field strength is the same for both.
- This means a balance can be used to compare masses, not just weights.
Test yourself on Weight
What is the value of acceleration due to gravity at the Earth's surface?
An object's weight is 100 N. If the gravitational field strength is 2.5 N/kg, what is its mass?
Which of the following are true of weight?
What are the units for gravitational field strength?
