Maths: Year 3 & 4 National Curriculum, topic 2.4.2
Counting Money
We can use notes and coins to make up certain amounts of money. This is useful for when you need to buy something!

Making amounts
- Here are some notes and coins:
- 20p, 20p, 50p, £1, £5
- Add the coins and notes together to work out the total.
- Pence: 20p + 20p + 50p = 90p
- Pounds: £1 + £5 = 6
- The total is £6 and 90p.

Making totals
- A shopping bill comes to £8. Make the total with coins and notes.
- There are many ways to do this, for example:
- £5 + £2 + £1 = £8
- £2 + £2 + £2 + £2 = £8
- £5 + £1 + £1 + 50p + 50p = £8
